Keurig Coffee Makers Vs. Senseo Coffee Makers
Today, in the vs. Series, we’ll take a look at the Senseo series of Coffee Makers, compared to the Keurig One Cup Coffee Makers.
To recap, Keurig is a company of coffee makers and a subsidiary of Green Mountain Coffee. Keurig has six different main models that run the gamut in terms of price range and features. The good news is that even the cheapest models, the Keurig Mini and Keurig Elite, coming in at around $60 or $70 in some online and store retailers, produce the same great coffee in the same quick time as the more expensive models, such as the Platinum and the Keurig Breville models. The more expensive models have more features and more customization but all models are known for their ease of use, speed in making coffee and easy cleaning ability. The differences lie in style, design and the size of the water reservoir, as well as intended use. For example, Keurig has a model designed specifically as an office coffee maker that is built to be rugged and withstand a constant bombardment of uses, called the OfficePro.
Senseo coffee makers are designed by Philips, which is a Holland-based electronics company. The Philips Senseo coffee makers use a unique spray head that sends out mild water pressure to filter through a coffee pod, the Senseo equivalent to a K-Cup, supposedly resulting in an optimal blend of coffee To brew a fresh cup of coffee with the Senseo Coffee Makers, all you need to do is pour water into the water reservoir, place a coffee pod in the pod holder and push the on button. The great thing about Senseo Coffee Makers is that the coffee is made within 30 seconds. Also, like the Keurig and Flavia, clean up is easy. There are no messy coffee grinds to contend with and all the detachable parts can go straight into the dishwasher. The Senseo Coffee Makers also automatically shut off after an hour of inactivity, which is a nice added safety feature.
The Dutch coffee roasting company of Douwe Egbert has developed special coffee pods to go with the Philips Senseo coffee maker, with their new hot cocoa varieties launched in Belgium and the Netherlands. The main blends for the pods or pads are mild, regular, mocca and dark roast and there is also a decaffeinated variety. The blends differ, according to general taste, in different countries. The special blends, Colombia, Kenya and Brazil are blended from Arabica coffees from selected plantations and are a little more expensive than the normal blends. There are also coffee pods with added flavors, called Vienna, Rio de Janeiro, and Sevilla & Marrackech. More recent varieties launched in selected European markets include cappuccino, café Chocó and espresso.
Senseo manufactures three coffee makers: the original Senseo Coffee Machine (HD 7810/65), a Deluxe Model (HD7820) and a Supreme Model (HD 7832/55).
Senseo Coffee Machine HD 7810
The Senseo HD 7810 coffee maker is the original and forerunner of the Senseo Coffee Maker line. It features a 1450 watt boiler, and makes a cup or two of coffee in about thirty seconds. This coffee maker is ideal for those who like to brew one fresh cup at a time, or who have several members in the household or office who like different blends of coffee.
Most customers have been very pleased with their Senseo HD 7810. The positive aspects are the easy clean up, ease of use and speed of coffee. The major objections are that large coffee mugs don’t fit under the spout and some people did not like the taste of the coffee.
Senseo Deluxe (HD 7820/65) Single Serve Gourmet Coffee Maker
The Senseo Deluxe has all of the same benefits and features of the HD 7810 with a few extra features. The HD 7820/65 offers the ability to brew cappuccino and tea as well as gourmet coffee. The Deluxe model also has an adjustable spout, which enables larger coffee cups to fit under the spout, and has a larger water reservoir (32 ounces).
Senseo Supreme (HD 7832/55) Single Serve Gourmet Coffee Maker
The Senseo Supreme has every feature that the original and deluxe versions have. In addition they feature an LCD display that shows the water level of the water reservoir and also features a coffee volume selection which gives you the ability to choose how much coffee you care to make.
Both Senseo and Keurig coffee makers are great choices for people who enjoy a freshly brewed cup of gourmet coffee. They are both very convenient, with easy clean up and easy operating. If you are a heavy coffee drinker this may not be the machine for you, but if you enjoy one cup at a time the Senseo coffee machines are a great choice.
